Reflections on 2024
As I reflect on 2024, I’m struck by the profound growth and fulfillment this year has brought. It has been a year of creativity and perseverance, marked by moments that reminded me of the importance of aligning my actions with my values and dreams.
One of the most transformative experiences this year was bringing to life a play that delves into my family’s history. Co-writing, co-directing, producing, and performing in a story that retraces my Jewish ancestors’ journey from the USSR to the United States in the early 1900s was an emotional and empowering endeavor. This project allowed me to explore themes of resilience and identity, and sharing it with an audience felt like both a personal and collective act of connection.
Another defining moment was being accepted into the University of Victoria’s Bachelor of Education Secondary Drama & English PDPP program. This achievement, the culmination of eight years of undergraduate studies, marks the start of an exciting chapter in my journey as an educator. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of my family, friends, and loving partner, who have been my constant sources of strength and encouragement.
Theatre education has remained a central passion throughout the year. Among the many performances I choreographed, directed, and stage-managed, one stands out: a play I wrote specifically for my youth drama class at the Amber Academy Youth Fine Arts Society. Watching my students bring my words to life was deeply rewarding, underscoring the profound impact of mentorship and creative collaboration on young minds.
In addition to these creative pursuits, I completed a research-based educational tool aimed at helping arts educators center their practice around students’ experiences. Seeing this project accepted for presentation at the WestCAST Conference in 2025 at Simon Fraser University was a validating moment, one that inspires me to continue advocating for ethical, student-centered education.
Beyond my professional accomplishments, 2024 was also a year of intentional living. I rediscovered my yoga practice and made time for daily reading, simple acts that have enriched my sense of self and provided grounding amidst life’s demands. I also continued my studies in American Sign Language, an endeavor that, while paused during the latter half of the year due to my busy schedule, remains a priority as I strive to build a more inclusive and connected world.
As the year comes to a close, I find myself filled with gratitude and optimism. The lessons of 2024 have reinforced the value of living authentically and pursuing growth, both personal and professional. Here’s to a new year brimming with possibility, purpose, and the courage to live in alignment with what truly matters.
